1. Boxing Day Tsunami, 2004

My design approach has always revolved around my interests and personal experiences in life creating story-telling textile outcomes. My individual style is applied to unique applications which are demonstrated in my Final Major Degree Show Collection.

This story-telling collection is all about my memories of being caught up in the Tsunami in Thailand when I was 6 years old whilst on a family holiday.

Inspired to create textile outcomes which act as a memorial, and bring communities together through a lived experience. Showcasing my childhood viewpoint telling her set of events, this communication tool of textile outcomes reflects emotional grief and tragedy, commemorating the day 227,898 people lost their lives. I was heavily inspired by autobiographical textile artworks like Tracey Emin and JoAnn Robinson

The acknowledgement of this significant time in history and the aftermath that followed consequently allows people who look at her collection to learn about my story and experiences of the devasting day, allowing time to reflect and educate themselves on just how deadly a Tsunami is. My powerful reminder of this momentous event within Earth’s natural history holds a purpose for people never to forget.

My colour palette derives from the bright and bold colours traditionally worn in Thai culture mixed with a monochrome palette to portray a harrowing and hazy memory I have of this time.

My innovative, hands-on designs show a breadth of interest. Forward-thinking, conceptual prints create original and contemporary outcomes that showcase my creative practice. I continue combining hand and digital skills whilst pushing the boundaries in design.
