4. British Country, 2020

This gender-neutral, trans-seasonal, activewear collection acts as an ode to my grandmother and our shared love for lengthy walks taken in South Hertfordshire during sunset. An activity I use to love doing with my grandmother before sadly passing away.

Our joint love for the unspoilt elements of nature such as clouds, trees, birds, the sun and the moon played a big part in their relationship and is apparent throughout my design work. The nostalgic memories of being in remote countryside landscapes come to form through painterly abstract marks in bright, playful colours evoking her grandmother's energy acting as a reminder of how full of energy her grandmother always was.

My practice for this project shows my experimental and creative nature through my initial and explorative processes. The sublime components of my photography capture the space and silhouette around me during the time of the sun setting. My digital manipulation of altering the levels and intensity of colours explores bold, stronger and more vibrant colour palettes. My aim was to capsulise my grandmother always in high spirits, recalling the sense of joy that we shared together in these moments in time.

The continuous lines throughout some prints were inspired by the imprints of the trails me and my grandmother walked through moments in time and the presence that we leave when we are no longer here.

What mark do we leave on the world?

These marks translated through creativity reveal the beauty of their countryside walks bringing it into the present through an activewear collection that is bright in colour.
